Mommy Tracks, # MeToo, and the Making of a Movement

KEYNOTE: URSULA MEAD, CEO INHERSIGHT

A DATA DRIVEN LOOK AT THE STATE OF THE WORKPLACE FOR WOMEN - WHAT'S WORKING, WHAT ISN'T, AND WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.

You've probably heard a lot about the state of support of women in the workforce in the past few years, but do you know the on-the-ground facts? What does it mean for a company to be "female friendly"? Why is gender equality important? What industries are ahead of the curve for how they support women? How has the #MeToo movement affected how employers respond to sexual harassment?

Durham-based InHerSight has been gathering data on the workplace from hundreds of thousands of working women. Join CEO Ursula Mead for a conversation about what the data can tell us about the challenges working women are facing, how things are changing, and what you can do to help improve the workplace for women (or find a better company to work for).

Why You Should Attend: All of us have unique insights into how well our employers support our needs and goals—where companies excel, where they can do better, and whether or not they foster an environment that enables all employees to thrive. Through this talk we will learn that when each of us shares our insights, collectively we can bring powerful transparency to the working world for women.

Key Takeaways: How measurements drive change and solutions; developing better understandings/gathering real data on what its really like for women in the workplace

Ursula Mead is the founder and CEO of InHerSight, a website that allows women to rank their companies/employers anonymously on 14 metrics that matter to working women, including flexible work hours, maternity leave, salary satisfaction, mentoring, and women representation in leadership. InHerSight allows women to rate the female-friendliness of their companies and get matched to companies that have what they are looking for.

Originally, the idea for InHerSight came from TripAdvisor, the holiday rating device that transformed the travel industry. Ursula realized that we are all inspired by ratings platforms like TripAdvisor—so why not create something that can not only help women find fantastic workplaces, but also help make those workplaces even better? With these ideas in mind, Ursula started InHerSight in the DC area but relocated to Durham, North Carolina because she wanted the organization to grow in a tech hub with access to top talent. A particular draw for Ursula to the Durham area was the Triangle’s values of diversity and inclusion.

The mission of InHerSight is to improve gender equality in the workplace. It has helped countless women research company cultures and benefits and find the right career fit for their lives and goals.
